Top 4 Things Your Website Is Missing

By Andy Tretow - eGuide Content Marketing Manager

At the beginning of this year, I declared 2023 “The Year of the Website”. I believe it is pivotal to stay ahead of the curve between a good and a great website when there are so many out there.  Believe it or not, there are a few simple steps you can take to increase traffic and SEO scores and get yourself ahead of your competitors.  Here are 4 Things that Your Website is Missing.

1. Let’s Blog About That

With the recent change that Google has made it to its algorithm, the more frequent, newer content is getting priority.  In layman's terms, the more you post on your website, means you are going to land in the top search results. Posting on a blog is a great way to keep fresh content coming.  Not only will you be sharing relevant information about your brand, but you also will be able to build trust in your audience. Users want to see that you are active on your website. Anytime you are creating new content that makes your clientele feel that you are “in the know” and are an expert in your field.  That trust can go a long way in having them stick with you vs. searching around for another option.

Bonus Points:  Something to keep in mind as you start or continue your blog is to start finding ways to summarize your posts in a simple infographic.  Google and the other main search engines are going to be enhancing search engines through the use of AI. What does this mean?  This means if you search for something, then it is going to going to give answers, and it will not necessarily point people to sources.  SEO will never go away, but it might not have the desired effect as it always has. Sites like Canva can help with this goal!

2. Front Row Call to Action

While it might seem simple or obvious, it is worth mentioning anyway. One of the most important things you NEED to have on your website is a call to action button or interactive display. You can have great information or an awesome display, but taking things that extra step with CTA will break up text and make content more manageable.  Where should the button lead to?  Well, it can take viewers to almost any part of your website. More often than not, it should lead to parts of the site to learn more about who you are and what you do, your contact page, or a website store to check out your latest products.

3. Embedded Social Media Feed

A few years ago, it was considered “cutting-edge” to have your social media platforms linked to your website via icons or hyperlinks. However, that has quickly become a pretty basic practice. No longer is it enough to show proof of your social channels.  Website platforms, such as Squarespace and WIX, now offer the ability to put your social media links directly onto your website and will update in realtime.  This not only allows you to showcase your social media to existing and new audiences, but it allows you to make daily updates to your website without having to make changes in the backend constantly.

4. Responsive Design

With the amount of different devices we now search the web on, no longer can one layout be good enough.  In fact, popular platforms have answered the bell with making it possible to edit for desktop and mobile view separately. This limits the potential clunkiness that the conversion from one to the other creates. With more than half of consumers accessing the internet via mobile devices, it is essential for any website to give users a seamless experience. Unfortunately, if it is anything less than that, users are most likely to go elsewhere.

Conclusion

When creating or editing a website, your ultimate goals are to get people to your site and consume your content.  This list is a great start in getting consumers to do exactly that.  Relevant and interesting content is no doubt important, but how it is presented and designed is almost more important.  With the amount of websites the general public visits every day, it is easy to know which are good and which are sorely lacking.  If you can crack the code for producing regular content with a cutting-edge design, then you will quickly find yourself among the leaders in your field, both according to your customers and Google’s algorithm.
