ChatBots Slated to Disrupt SEO Forever 🤖

The Chatbots Are Coming!
The Chatbots Are Coming!

Since the dawn of the search engine in the early 90s, we have all slowly become programmed to rely on the power of Google (most of us, at least) to inform the questions we have, the recipes we make, the product we purchase, and the knowledge we seek. When the iPhone hit the market in 2006, we transitioned to augmented reality with the ability to answer questions in real time. Algorithms were created to ensure that well-trafficked content was being shown high on the list of common searches, and an entire industry was created to boost ranking and generate interest and sales for organizations.

What if I said the way we “Google” is going to change forever?

If ChatGPT hasn’t come up in a recent conversation, then, congratulations! You may be a part of the late majority. Just last week ChatGPT passed law and business exams from major universities (albeit with a C+, but better than I could do!) From university essay writing to contracting, developing, and yes, Googling. ChatGPT has definitely made its mark as the wave of the future. This has created a “space race” between Google and Microsoft to be the first search engine to go live with a NLP Ai Chatbot option.

NLP Ai? Natural Language Processing Artificial Intelligence Chatbot. That means that the 90s search engine, “Ask Jeeves” will finally be able to understand a question like, “Can you draft a service agreement for my organization?” or “Can you explain how I would create an integration between platform X & X?”

What ChatGPT means for SEO.

For many organizations, SEO has become a valid funnel filler for new business, and as soon as AI Chatbots are able to give answers to questions that used to be answered by clicking through to a website page. A traditional SEO approach may be rendered obsolete.

Now I am sure for paying customers, both Google and Microsoft will be taking care of those precious ad dollars, but for the smaller organizations (like us) who have been able to build credibility through organic indexing, the game is going to have to change.

I recently met with a group of small event agency owners and presented the deck linked below. This just starts to scratch the surface of what AI may mean for this industry. No matter the industry, the bots are going to be here to say, so the time to start thinking about the impact AI is going to have on your industry is yesterday.

Need someone to strategize with? Happy to be that person for you! One thing ChatGPT can’t do is predict the future, but for us, the signs are on the wall that big changes are coming to search engines everywhere soon!
