Virtual Event Platforms: Demio Review

For businesses looking for a turn-key solution for webinars, speaker series, or panel discussions, Demio would be a great place to start. The team at eGuide dove into the free trial of Demio to explore some of the features of the platform and dig deeper into user experience, technical features, and a few use cases.

How We Would Rate the Platform

EASE OF USE: 8/10

There’s no real need to do hours of training. With a few instructions, even a non-tech savvy person would be able to populate a meeting.

CUSTOMIZATION: 4/10

Some branding and interface capabilities apply, but there are a lot of limitations to the registration page compared to other event software, and the ability to create a truly curated and customer experience is not possible. That said, for a quick turn-key solution, it may have enough customization features to do the job.

SECURITY: 4/10

If you are looking for the most secure platform, Demio is not it and lacks the end to end encryption many platforms are moving to.

INTEGRATIONS: 3/10

Demio does not feature any simulcast technology (so no streaming to IGTV, Facebook Live, and Demio at the same time) and many integrations are with drip marketing platforms.

PRICE: 6/10

For lower attendees (50 or under), the price point is a great value at $34 per month annually. The subscription levels are appropriate to the price ($69 for up to 150 attendees, and $163 for up to 500). For larger or public events Demio would not be the right solution.

OVERALL RATING: 5/10

Demio is a good middle of the road product with a low threshold of entry and on-boarding. With some customization options and some integrations, it may be just enough for the right client fit, but for larger or public events we would recommend other platforms.

Who Would Use Demio?

SOFTWARE AS A SERVICE BUSINESSES
If you are a SAAS business looking to do an external marketing campaign that relies heavily on webinars and demos, Demio may be a great entry level platform to consider.

BUSINESS COACHES
If you find yourself doing a lot of “free” webinars or workshops as a marketing strategy, Demio does have the ability to integrate into drip marketing platforms which can turn your pre-recorded webinars into an effective multi-touch marketing campaigns, Demio is equipped with the right tools for the job.

NONPROFITS WITH SPEAKER SERIES OR PANEL DISCUSSIONS
Many nonprofits rely on programming efforts for funding and awareness. With the Covid-19 pandemic, many of those programmed events are turning virtual. Demio would provide a lightly branded, web-based, experience that is easy to manage for lean nonprofits.

User Experience in Demio

Demio has enough customizable capabilities to make the event page seem like a branded event, but is simple enough that the design will remain sleek and modern. You can add bits of branding such as your logo and primary brand color, but the font is unable to change at this time. Demio has the capability to add speaker biographies including websites, photos, and links. Within the meeting, users have the ability to give supplemental materials and handouts to attendees.

Technical Assessment

Demio’s user interface for hosts and attendees is completely web based, meaning you don’t need to download and install a separate app. All you need is an updated version of Google Chrome/Safari/Firefox (screen sharing not supported on Safari) to be able to host and join events. This can be a great feature if your target audience is not tech savvy or has limited access to their devices. You can easily customize registration page settings, event participant and host interface, quickly set up recurring events or access to recordings from previous events

Internet speed requirements are fairly modest for a web based platform starting at 1Mbps for participants and 2Mbps for presenters using audio and video.

Another great point worth mentioning is the very well maintained and wide Knowledge Base that is freely accessible to users, this can be a great asset for best practices, troubleshooting steps and user training.

The platform lacks end to end encryption and other advanced security features, the ease of use and login free interface for participants make it a great option for sales and marketing teams.
