Trying to do Our Part
It’s been nearly a month since police murdered George Floyd, but this battle began nearly 400 years ago. Protests and riots have spread their way across the United States and the world, and changes to the system are already being made. But things are far from over.
While eGuide is by no means an expert on racism or the deep-rooted white supremacy the United States was built on, our whole team is making a conscious effort to educate themselves on how racism affects our lives daily. We don’t like to think of ourselves as racists, but there is implicit bias that has been ingrained in our upbringing and throughout our education system. Consciously or unconsciously, we all have biases, and we are responsible to educate ourselves on those biases and try to unlearn what we have been told about race.
We’ve put together some resources that we have found helpful in educating ourselves and ways to take part in this larger conversation and movement.
Black Lives Matter Carrd
This. Site. Is. Amazing. With everything from where protests around the country are happening, to resources on how and where to register to vote, this site is a great place to start. If you don’t know what actions to start taking, go to this site. They have it all laid out for you from petitions to sign, your local representatives to call to call for defunding the police, and of course organizations to donate to. There is no reason to feel at a loss for where to start after seeing this site. And a good reminder that this issue doesn’t disappear with the news cycle.
Anti-Racism Daily Newsletter
This is a newsletter sent right to your inbox with a daily topic, questions to consider while reading through the daily material, supplemental articles for further reading, and action items to take after reading.
Creator of this newsletter, Nicole Cardoza, explains “Anti-racism work doesn’t start and end when the protests do. It’s a practice, which means we do it consistently, over time and with vigor. Racism is our default practice. Therefore, we need to consciously commit to practicing anti-racism in all that we do.”
Upon signing up you will also get access to all of the previous newsletters that have gone out to-date with topics such as bail bonds, what it means to defund the police, and more.
This Must End
Our very own team member, Lauren, put together this website to compile a small section of organizations to donate to, petitions to sign, articles to educate yourself with, and actions to take. If you are feeling overwhelmed on where the best place to start, pick one of the following articles featured on the site to read through, analyze how it makes you feel and try to take one action from that article which could be making a donation, signing a petition, or helping others in your social circle understand the main takeaways from the article.

Code Switch is described as “the fearless conversation about race you’ve been waiting for! Hosted by journalists of color, our podcast tackles the subject of race head-on.”
The Daily is not specifically focused on race relations, but recently they have had many great episodes focusing on the recent murders of Black men by the police, Black Lives Matter protests, and other relevant current events that blend in with the anti-racist movement.
Yo, is This Racist? Tackles the very timely question right now while also adding in some humor. While racism is no laughing matter, with the weight of the world right now it is nice to have a bit of comedic relief intermixed with a serious topic.
We are not experts on race relations and antiracism. We are trying to learn just like all good people right now. We are open to other resources, actions, courses, anything that can help towards this fight for racial justice that is so desperately needed.
